Hip-hop Vs. Oprah: Ice Cube Joins 50 Cent and Ludacris
So you thought 50 Cent and Ludacris were the only rappers 'beefing' with talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey? Gangsta rap veteran Ice Cube has joined 50 and Luda in lashing out at Oprah for her anti-hip-hop sentiments. In the July issue of FHM magazine, Cube unveiled his angst: "For 'Barbershop,' she had Cedric the Entertainer and Eve on, but I wasn't invited," says the 36-year-old rapper, referring to his 2002 movie. "Maybe she's got a problem with hip-hop. She's had damn rapists, child molesters and lying authors on her show. And if I'm not a rags-to-riches story for her, who is?"
The verbal war against Oprah began after rapper/actor Ludacris complained that Oprah had been unfair to her during an appearance with his "Crash" co-stars on the talk-show. 50 Cent then joined the outcry saying that Oprah "caters to older white women." Oprah responded to 50's outlash during a surprise appearance on Power 105.1FM, revealing that she even has 50 Cent's "In da Club" on her iPod. "I listen to some hip-hop," she told DJ Ed Lover. "You know, I've been accused of not liking hip-hop and that's just not true." She also defended herself by naming Jay-Z and Kanye West as some of her favorite rappers.
The July issue of FHM hits stands on June 6, the same day Ice Cube's Laugh Now, Cry Later CD is expected in stores.
